Sorry to say, but while this app claims 5 stars, it certainly doesn’t deserve it. First of all, it uses up well over a quarter of my computer’s memory, significantly slowing down its’ operation. I use Shazam’s OSx app and it’s literally constantly using my microphone scanning for sound (for potential songs to match for me) but EVEN Shazam doesn’t hog up nearly 2.5 PERCENT of the memory that eXtra Voice Recorder uses. Nonetheless, this couldn’t and shouldnt be explained by Dropbox syncing either (which by the way is very inefficient and doesn’t update properly across devices as it purports to). Therefore, neither of these likely suspects could or should possibly explain eXtra Voice Recorders’ absurd memory usage. Secondly, for whatever reason this app records audio files in m4a audio format and constantly crashes iTunes when attempting to play them (both applications are on the latest software update). Thirdly, the little menu-bar dropdown window is terribly non-user friendly and is missing many intuitive functions. I’m not even going to start with my suggestions as it’d be a waste of space here… Finally, for anyone looking to pair this app with it’s mobile partner, I’m afraid to say its an absolute waste of time, money, and sanity. This was the one and only attractive feature to me but I just ended up losing numerous important recordings because the mobile app constantly crashes and fails to make recordings (how can a recording app fail at successfully recording?!?). In any case, this app is so simple, yet so terribly designed and nonetheless, for $9.99, it’s 100% totally NOT worth it. I also forgot to mention, I’ve emailed the app creator three times with polite complaints and requests and have only received one response in clearly non-native english claiming they’d fix the problems. It’s likely this app-creator is not dedicating the appropriate time to the app and nevertheless is most likely writing these very endorsing 5-star reviews. The only reason this app gets 2-stars is because it can record audio and sort the files for you, but you can easily do this with plenty of other apps available to you, SO PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DONT BUY THIS APPLICATION.

stopped working - won’t open at all

I used the free version and liked it so much I upgraded to the paid. I managed to do two voice clips and then the app disappeared. I try to open it, it acts as if it might open, but then nothing. Doesn’t show that it has opened anywhere. Very upset and now will likely need to buy a different one as I am short on time.

Absolutely Great App - Highly Recommend

eXtra Voice Recorder is a fantastic application - I absolutely love it. I use it on my computer when talking on Skype inside the U.S. or with other countries - meetings, consultations, important conversations with family, etc. What I specifically like about it: 1) It has so far never failed 2) The quality of recording is really good 3) It is extremely easy to use 4) It is easy to make markers in the conversation (without stopping and restarting recording) 5) I can type the name of tracks while still speaking to the person 6) Afterwards, I can place a copy of the track, or the whole converstion in the needed folder, so that I can easily find it when I need to - it would play via the iTunes then. I have not read what problems the unlucky people got (those who rated the app as 2 and 1), but I certainly enjoy and value this app very much!

Great App

Very easy to use and clear recordings. Love it!

Excellent! Clean and unobtrusive.

This little guy has staked out a territory all its own in its market segment. Record, playback, pause, bookmark, annotate, continue/resume recording, import/export recordings — it does it all very gracefully and syncs across devices. It even lets me organize and categorize my recordings to fit my style. Transcribing recordings is just about the only thing it doesn’t do. I like it a lot.

Excellent for dragon transcription

The sound quality with this app is great and it is easy to use. I use it to record patient notes and then use the desktop version of Dragon Dictate for Mac to transcribe them later. Works better than running Dragon directly in Epic.

Dropbox sync doesnt work for me

The Dropbox sync feature does not work at all for me. I contacted tech support, and they were not able to solve the problem. They suggested I do a re-install, and after that solve anything, they just said "ask Dropbox for help". Also, I find myself having trouble with naming markers after I drop them. Although it works, that feature is a bit clumsy. Other than than, the app works fine.

Just bought it, and it doesn’t open.

I opened it after installation, and it popped up an ad to spend another $1.99 on the app for my other Apple devices. I went ahead because I planned to use it across devices, and lo and behold, the Mac app doesn’t open. No message, warning, or anything. The iPhone works fine, but I need to be able to record on my Mac as well. Great. *Not* thrilled here.

Was excellent. Broken on El Capitan.

Does not allow you to select local folder for storage other than its default. Dropbox sync creates dozens of incrementally-named copies of the same file. Unfortunuate. Was a solid recorder, and iOS apps are very good. The OS X version seems DOA.

?

I don’t know if I like it or not! I paid $4.99 for this app on my MacBook Air, and it won’t open.

Great tool.

It is great. Specially for students. I set it up at beginning of class and concentrate on taking notes on my notebook or even one of the wordprossesing apps. If I miss anything, I just need to get back to the recording later to study… And the fact that it works on all my devices is gold! Have not use the notes part on the app itself, but for small “reminders” would probably be awesome. Keep it up!

Good and straightforward

This app isn’t fancy, but it’s very straighforward, easy to figure out, and suited my purpose (recording interviews with students for playback and transcription) very well. The flags are easy to use and helpful to go back and find specific questions. Sometimes it gets glitchy and the button doesn’t move so you can’t tell where you are in a recording, other than that, it worked as well as I could have hoped.
